Playhouse Rehab

This was my first project (where it all began) back in 2014.

From EEK to CHIC!

My husband and I conducted a multi-month hunt in search of a playhouse for our kids. We finally found what we thought was the piéce de résistance... It wasn't until after we paid someone to lift and transport the playhouse that we realized the extent of the damage from years of neglect... and of course the ghosts. The seller even felt bad and ended up giving it to us for free, due to the shape it was in. Picture # 2 is what it looked like before. I was committed at this point, so I trudged forward with the plan. Once it arrived and was positioned in place, I surveyed the structure to determine a course of action.

BEFORE

It was missing a window and two shutters on the front facade. I found a company online that sold exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, the back side had been buried in several inches of dirt, which led to rot on multiple boards. Ripping them out proved to be quite the adventure. From experimenting with different saws, to putting my husband's karate skills to the test, we eventually were successful in removing and replacing all the damaged wood. The rest was just cosmetic, which for me is always the fun part! I built window boxes from the leftover wall paneling and trim. Then added decorative trim pieces, corner bands, a step on the front, and lattice to the bottom. After lots and lots of painting, the project was complete and my daughter was very thrilled with her new playhouse. Her favorite part of the whole project was picking out the flowers for the window boxes. I'm happy to report that the ghosts lost interest in residing in such a delightful, happy house.
