When you used to enter our house from the garage, you would see a plain, boring wall. I disliked it and just had to recreate the space. I love for things to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing, so designing this decorative wainscoting wall adorned with coat hooks was a no-brainer. To date, this is by far my favorite project! Even while caring for my 3 and 5-year-old helpers, it only took me one day to build and two days to paint!

The only challenge I faced was an alarm system keypad that I could move, but only as far as the wires would allow. I based the height of the design around it's new location. In the above pictures, you can see that I was in the process of relocating the alarm system and patching the previous hole.

The design plan started with the outside square, for which I used 1x6 pine trim boards. I used 1x3s for the inside vertical boards and top ledge. Lastly, I finished it with quarter round under the top ledge and where the wainscoting met the floor. I used trim nails and Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive to glue the boards to the wall. After applying putty and sanding them down, I caulked the corners. The final step was painting. I applied Kilz Primer, then two coats of semi-gloss white.

I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product! It made life just a little bit easier by creating a place to quickly hang coats, hats, and scarves.
