Closet Revamp

My daughter is a darling little princess, but her closet was absolutely abysmal!  It had been the source of much frustration due to its lack of organization and the inability to close the doors.  If you read my previous post, then you are fully aware of my hate of wire shelving. Her's were too tall for her to reach and there wasn't enough storage for her toys. So, the only logical thing to do was to rip out my nemesis... the wire shelves (cue evil laugh) and start fresh!

And yes, surprisingly, everything except the upside-down pink buggy is in the "After" picture.

My problems included a lack of hanging space in her closet, the cloth hanging shelves just weren't cutting it, and an undersized room unable to accommodate a dresser or toy bin without becoming overcrowded.

I start every project by sketching out my plan and taking lots of measurements. After removing the wire shelves, patching the holes in the drywall, and painting the walls a soft green, I had to remove the baseboards so that my center shelf would be flush to the wall. I built the shelf first and made everything else work around it.

My rod placement took a lot of thought, because I wanted the ability to hang longer items while still giving her a low rod that she could reach for her everyday clothes. When designing the shelves I went off the measurements of the containers I already had.

After everything was completed she was thrilled with her new closet!  She especially loved the ability to easily find the things you needed.  And I loved it because I could finally close her doors... but for once, I actually didn't want to. It's the simple things in life that make me smile :).
